UPON THE THEME OF LOVE: THE BODY, A FANCY by MARGARET LUCAS CAVENDISH

First Line: THE NERVES ARE FRANCE, AND ITALY, AND SPAIN
Last Line: WHERE LIFE, WHICH PASSES THROUGH, GREAT DANGER FINDS.
Subject(s): BODIES; HEADS; HUMANITY; LIFE; SKIN;

THE Nerves are France, and Italy, and Spain;
The Liver Britain, the Narrow Sea each Vein;
The Spleen is Aethiopia, wherein
Is bred a people of black and tawny skin;
The Stomach is like Aegypt, and the Chyle,
Which through the body flows, is as the Nile;
The Head and Heart both Indies are; each Ear
Doth like the South and Northern Poles appear;
The Lungs are rocks and caverns, whence rise winds,
Where Life, which passes through, great danger finds.
