INDIAN NIGHT by HENRY T. CHAMBERS

First Line: THE DARK WIND RUSHED FROM THE EMPTY PLAIN
Last Line: WHIMPERED THE TENTS TO SLEEP.
Subject(s): NIGHT; BEDTIME;

The dark wind rushed from the empty plain
And thrust at the tepee door;
A little brown deer went down to drink
At the spring on the valley floor.

The moon soared up and rode the sky;
Cats began to creep;
A burrowing owl in a prairie dog hole
Whimpered the tents to sleep.
