TREE WORSHIP by HELEN BURWELL CHAPIN

First Line: THE PEONY MAIDENS OF MOUNT LAO
Last Line: I WILL BRAVE THE DANGER.
Subject(s): TREES;

The peony maidens of Mount Lao,
White-robed, red-robed,
Beguiled the Chinese student from his books.
Young god of the Skyline eucalyptus,
Come forth,
Tall and slim, pale and delicate,
An ivory pillar, a shaft of moonlight.
Lightning flash, sword dance --
I will brave the danger.
