IN ONE OF ITALY'S CATHEDRALS by LAVINIA R. CLARK

First Line: IN ONE OF ITALY'S CATHEDRALS, VAST-DOMED
Last Line: SEEMS BEATING OUT A PRAYER.
Subject(s): CHURCHES; HUMANITY; PRAYER; RELIGION; CATHEDRALS; THEOLOGY;

In one of Italy's cathedrals, vast-domed,
Upheld by mammoth pillars, delicately carved,
Where the warm light from rich stained glass windows
Streams in through the half-gloom,
I see a prostrate figure kneeling,
A laboring man, in whose rapt and upturned face
The heart of all humanity
Seems beating out a prayer.
