THE LAST DESIRE by GEORGE HERBERT CLARKE

First Line: FROM DREAMLESS NIGHTS TO WAKE TO MOCKING MORROWS
Last Line: HOW BLEST A THING TO DIE, IF THIS BE DYING!
Subject(s): COMFORT; INSOMNIA; SLEEP; SLEEPLESSNESS;

@2F@1ROM dreamless nights to wake to mocking morrows,
To make toward the surface from the Deep,
For silence to put on old sins and sorrows,—
Unknown One, nay! let me forever sleep!

Secret, sufficient, all-subduing Sleep,—
In thine embrace eternal to be lying,
The while thine ancient eyes their vigil keep,—
How blest a thing to die, if this be dying!
