As those who stand upon an unknown shore To launch a precious vessel, all untried By shock of storm and impact of the tide, Nor heed the wreck of vessels launched before, So we embarked together. Side by side And hand in hand, upon that unknown sea Untried adventurers in life were we, No chart but love our voyaging to guide. There is so little can be sung or told Of uneventful journeys. Sun and rain Are gifts for growth; so ecstasy and pain Burn out the dross and leave the virgin gold. I only know that, come what may of fears, Our love and faith have glorified the years. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE PRETTY MILKMAID by MOTHER GOOSE EPITAPH INTENDED FOR SIR ISAAC NEWTON, IN WESTMINSTER ABBEY by ALEXANDER POPE THE BLACKBIRD by ALFRED TENNYSON DECLASSE by ANNA EMILIA BAGSTAD THE HOME-COMING by KATHARINE LEE BATES |
