A honeybee buzzed in my ear A gladsome note -- gay spring is here, See gorgeous flowers on parade, Hear feathered choirs from sylvan glade. A hummingbird on leafy spray Sang out, "Come, come, do not delay, A blossom's sway is briefly sweet." And so I hastened on to greet; Nile lilies tall of radiant blue, And lacy ferns fresh-tipped with dew, Great shaggy poppies row on row, Stood guarding flowers blooming low; Verbenas grouped in borders bright Were flaunting in the golden light; A daisy winked her amber eye And charmed the many passersby. Of all displayed none could compare With regal float of roses rare -- The Sweetheart rose, queen for a day Was lovely in her sheer array, Her maids were gowned in pastel shade -- Such beauty only God has made. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOMAGE TO SEXTUS PROPERTIUS: 4.
