A PRAYER by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES

Poet Analysis

First Line: LORD, HEAR MY MORNING'S PRAYER!
Last Line: ONE CHRIST TO SHARE MY EARTH!'
Subject(s): GOD; PRAYER; RELIGION; THEOLOGY;

Lord, hear my morning's prayer!
Increase, O Lord, my power,
That as I feed Your birds
From such a slender store,
Turn all these crumbs to pounds,
To feed a thousand men –
As easy as I feed
A sparrow, tit, or wren.
But God, being jealous still,
Can only smile and say –
'Serve me as you do now;
Feed My small birds and pray.
One dog to share one bone,
One woman to one hearth;
One man to share one house –
@3One Christ to share My Earth!'@1
