OURSELVES by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES

Poet Analysis

First Line: WE LIVE TO READ EACH OTHER'S SOUL
Last Line: TO CAST THEIR LIGHTNING ON MY OWN!
Subject(s): SELF; SOUL;

We live to read each other's soul –
We dare not read our own for shame!
But since I dare to know myself,
Where I condemn I share the blame.

I know my very seeds of thought,
Before they flower, or leaves are shown:
I see your fault with lazy eyes,
To cast their lightning on my own!
