TELL ME, WORLD, AND TELL ME, NATURE by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES

Poet Analysis

First Line: NO SPOILT, NO PAMPERED CHILD AM I
Last Line: AM I A SPOILT AND PAMPERED CREATURE?
Subject(s): NATURE;

No spoilt, no pampered child am I,
Neither by Nature nor the World;
Enough to keep my Body in breath
Is all I get in silver and gold.
How many pools have been my haunts,
Which but a Moorhen stirred,
To see my great Kingfisher twice —
That wild and lovely, life-sought Bird!
And many a Rainbow too has come
All silently in Heaven, and gone,
Between last Blackberry-time and this —
While I saw only one!
Then tell me, World, and tell me, Nature —
Am I a spoilt and pampered creature?
