THE PEACEMAKER by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES

Poet Analysis

First Line: WHEN SHE THREATENED TO LEAVE ME
Last Line: AND BEGGED TO BE NURSED.
Subject(s): BEGGING & BEGGARS; LOVE;

When she threatened to leave me,
And I, full of evil,
Cried 'Hoi, tiddlee, hoi,
Here's work for the devil! —'

With a sharp, single cry,
With a quick, sudden burst,
Up sat our little blind dog,
And begged to be nursed.
