SHADOWS by BERT DAVIS

First Line: BENT, VAGABONDLIKE
Last Line: BUT THE TWAIN HAVE NEVER MET.

Bent, vagabondlike,
Tired, worn, humiliated
Because of disappointments left in his bag,
Knowing sweet memories only were taken
And treasured as valuable --
Is dimly visible a silhouette.

Erect, gleeful, buoyant --
Even just born;
Radiant, hopeful, promising
The greatest treasure
Humanity seeks --
But the twain have never met.
