EIBHLIN A RUIN by THOMAS OSBORNE DAVIS

First Line: WHEN I AM FAR AWAY
Last Line: EIBHLIN A RUIN.

I.

WHEN I am far away,
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1,
Be gayest of the gay,
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1,
Too dear your happiness,
For me to wish it less --
Love has no selfishness.
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1.

II.

And it must be our pride,
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1,
Our trusting hearts to hide,
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1.
They wish our love to blight,
We'll wait for Fortune's light,
The flowers close up at night,
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1.

III.

And when we meet alone,
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1,
Upon my bosom thrown,
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1:
That hour, with light bedecked,
Shall cheer us and direct,
A beacon to the wrecked,
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1.

IV.

Fortune, thus sought, will come,
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1,
We'll win a happy home,
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1:
And, as it slowly rose,
'Twill tranquilly repose,
A rock 'mid melting snows,
@3Eibhlin a ruin@1.
