CONQUEST by LOUIS LEON DE JEAN

First Line: WAKE! BOLD SPIRIT OF COLUMBUS!
Last Line: ARE THE BOYS WHO SAIL THE BREEZE.
Subject(s): SAILING & SAILORS; SEAMEN; SAILS;

Wake! Bold spirit of Columbus!
Rise! Proud shade of Francis Drake!
Daniel Boone, Cortez, DeSoto,
Cast aside your shrouds—awake!
There's an element unconquered;
There's an ocean none has sailed;
There are dangers never dreamed of;
There are heights no man has scaled.

There are men who grow impatient
With this unromantic age;
There are men who crave adventure,
Men to whom this world's a cage.
There are men who roam the jungles;
There are men who rove the seas;
But the maddest and the gladdest
Are the boys who sail the breeze.
