THE GALLIASS by WALTER JOHN DE LA MARE

Poet Analysis

First Line: TELL ME, TELL ME
Last Line: SHE ALONE BURNS NONE TO PROVE HER SLEEP.

'Tell me, tell me,
Unknown stranger,
When shall I sight me
That tall ship
On whose flower-wreathed counter is gilded, @3Sleep@1?'

'Landsman, landsman,
Lynx nor kestrel
Ne'er shall descry from
Ocean steep
That midnight-stealing, high-pooped galliass, @3Sleep@1.'

'Promise me, Stranger,
Though I mark not
When cold night-tide's
Shadows creep
@3Thou@1 wilt keep unwavering watch for @3Sleep@1.'

'Myriad the lights are,
Wayworn landsman,
Rocking the dark through
On the deep:
She alone burns none to prove her @3Sleep@1.
