FIRST ANNIVERSARY by MIRIAM ALLEN DEFORD

First Line: A YEAR AGO TONIGHT I DID NOT LIE ALONE
Last Line: BUT MORNING CAME.

A year ago tonight I did not lie alone.
I felt your pulses beat, your flesh and bone
Against my own.

A year ago tonight I saw your heart-lit eyes,
Blue with that beauty pain could not disguise,
Or grief surprise.

A year ago tonight I heard you speak my name.
My spirit had a home, my being an aim.

But morning came.
