FOR STOICS by THOMAS DEL VECCHIO

First Line: NO MONUMENT SHALL MARK
Last Line: BUT THE FLESH KNOWS.
Subject(s): BEAUTY; DEATH; DUST; FLOWERS; ROSES; DEAD, THE;

No monument shall mark
The dead rose;
Beauty that springs from dust
To the dust goes,
And the wind blows.

But let no mortal think
As the breath slows
That a worm's dull nibble
Is the end of throes,
But the flesh knows.
