CHARMAID by MAUDE SMITH DELAVAN

First Line: SILVER SLIPPERS BECKON ME
Last Line: TO TREAD, IN SILVER SLIPPERS.
Subject(s): HOUSEHOLD EMPLOYEES; SERVANTS; DOMESTICS; MAIDS;

Silver slippers beckon me
Offering to climb the stair,
To forbidden everywhere.
Silver slippers? Ecstasy!
Fairyland for one like me!
In my clumsy rubber pair,
Made with zippers,
I scrub down the golden stair,
That other maids may find it fair,
To tread, in silver slippers.
