Colorado, you are glorious With your skies of turquoise blue; Carpeted in soft green velvet, Strewn with flowers of every hue. Your majestic snow-capped mountains Showing forth God's power divine, Where the Artist of all artists Tints the rose and columbine. Colorado, your protection For the birds and the wild deer, They can live within your border Without danger, without fear. Rainbow trout in gorgeous colors, Playing in each babbling brook, Chief delight of every sportsman And the boy with bait and hook. Colorado, you're a haven For the man who needs a rest, For the one who hides a sorrow Close within his troubled breast. For the sunshine near your mountains Cheers and helps the weary soul, Prompts each one to help the other Reach the summit of his goal. Colorado, words are futile To depict your virtues rare, For no other clime or country With your beauty, can compare; With your trees that God has planted, Trees that really are sublime; Quaking aspen, fir and blue spruce, Weeping willow, stately pine. Colorado, when I'm lonely, When I'm old and frail and grey, May I live where your dear mountains Cheer and comfort me each day. When at last my work is finished And these hills no more I trod, May I rest in Colorado Near the mountains of our God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE ARCHITECT (2) by KAREN SWENSON I HAVE SEEN THE SPRING' by SARA TEASDALE THIRD BOOK OF AIRS: SONG 17.
