NOVEMBER TREE by MARY CAROTHERS DILL

First Line: THERE IS MAGNIFICENCE IN ONE GAUNT TREE
Last Line: (A WEATHERED STRENGTH IS BEAUTY, TOO, IT SEEMS!)
Subject(s): SEASONS; TREES;

There is magnificence in one gaunt tree
That late November storms have weathered bare --
(A form that wears its starkness gallantly!)

In Spring, soft fairy buds enchant the air
And cradle on the tree's rough arms to flower --
(For only strength has gentleness to spare!)

Gay summer clothes the tree in gorgeous shower
Of pendants like great emeralds that gleam --
(So loveliness may cover hidden power!)

November storms now ruin Summer's dreams --
(A @3weathered strength@1 is Beauty, too, it seems!)
