FOR A VOLUME OF VERSE by HENRY AUSTIN DOBSON

Poet Analysis

First Line: GOOD SIR, OR MADAM, PRAY COME IN
Last Line: NO DOUBT YOU'LL FIND A VACANT SEAT.
Subject(s): POETRY & POETS;

GOOD Sir, or Madam, pray come in, --
No doubt you'll find a vacant seat.
Our 'plot,' maybe, is somewhat thin, --
We hope at least the 'parts' complete.

Of themes sublime we seldom treat, --
Be warned of that ere we begin.
Good Sir, or Madam, pray come in, --
No doubt you'll find a vacant seat.

Here is the Bill. You see we spin
But trifles. Still, a slight conceit
May prove the pin to prick a sin, --
The balm to make a virtue sweet.
Good Sir, or Madam, pray come in, --
No doubt you'll find a vacant seat.
