SYMPHONY by MARIE DODGE

First Line: AS HE WHO LOOKS UPON A MUSIC SCORE
Last Line: FOR CADENCES, THE VALLEY'S PEACEFUL REST.

As he who looks upon a music score,
And hears, while reading thoughts by symbols bound,
The music's regal beauty rise and soar --
He only hears without an outward sound,
Who understands the meaning signs convey;
So, one inspired looks upon the scene
And hears the notes of Nature's music play
A symphony so vast, but yet serene
All written there on rolling prairie's scroll,
That open wide unfolds the harmony;
By signs and symbols reads the mighty whole --
The mountains' faultless rhythm, for melody,
The Master Mind the meaning thus exprest,
For cadences, the valley's peaceful rest.
