THE SOUL OF FELICITY by JOHN GRAY DUNCAN

First Line: MAY WISDOM LOVE US MORE AND MORE
Last Line: FULL LIFE SET FREE, AND NEVER BLIND.
Subject(s): WISDOM;

May wisdom love us more and more,
We shall not then be past our prime;
But growing ever with its lore
Joy in the heart shall bless our time.

Tranquility shall prove its strength,
And find a vision's lost desire,
Perpetual in time at length
A grace, and virtue's new attire.

Sun shadows sun, and yet there shines
Beauty where'er its pleasures dwell,
Pleased with the prospect that its lines
Of bounty's larger moment tell.

A slave to freedom serves no chain
More constant than a witless mind,
But those infused with wisdom gain
Full life set free, and never blind.
