AFTERMATH by LOUISE WILSON DUNWELL

First Line: LOVE CAME AND WALKED BESIDE ME YESTERDAY
Last Line: HIS SMILE WILL BRIGHTEN ALL MY FUTURE YEARS.
Subject(s): FUTURE; LOVE; SMILES; WALKING;

Love came and walked beside me yesterday,
Smoothing the pathway for my aching feet;
His beauteous smile, like sunlight, filled my way,
And all his murmurings were wondrous sweet.

My heavy cross grew lighter, as his smile
And clasp of hand sent warmth to my sad heart;
My world was heavenly a little while,
Till came the day when love and I must part.

A teardrop glistened in his bright blue eye;
His tender voice sounded a heartbreak moan;
His sweet lip trembled as he said goodbye --
And love was gone -- again I walked alone!

He left within my heart a tender song --
I shall not weep, with vain and idle tears;
For, though he could not tarry with me long,
His smile will brighten all my future years.
