RETROSPECT by GODFREY ELTON

First Line: ONE LOVE, TILL TIME TOOK IT FROM SIGHT
Last Line: CAME WITH THE COMING IN OF NIGHT.
Subject(s): OXFORD UNIVERSITY;

ONE love, till time took it from sight,
Was made of heather and sunlight;
The other, after a strange birth,
Was made of lavender and mirth.

The first, which was clad all in grey,
Went with the going out of day;
The last, whose raiment was of white,
Came with the coming in of night.
