PAINTING AND SCULPTURE by RALPH WALDO EMERSON

Poet Analysis

First Line: THE SINFUL PAINTER DRAPES HIS GODDESS WARM
Last Line: BEAUTY, WHICH LIMBS AND FLESH ENOUGH INVEST.
Subject(s): PAINTINGS & PAINTERS; SCULPTURE & SCULPTORS;

The sinful painter drapes his goddess warm,
Because she still is naked, being dressed:
The godlike sculptor will not so deform
Beauty, which limbs and flesh enough invest.
