Afraid Of dark? that putting out the light That gives us night, To soft enfold and rest us From the noise and glare of day. O send the dark, I pray. Of death? when spirit leaves this clay And soars to endless bliss, Its chrysalis outgrown and in decay. No sorrow then, nor sin, nor dark despair. Why fear the door through which we enter there? Of life? whose buffetings do strengthen us, Whose marks cut deep, because The stone is worth the shaping. Fear life? not I, I say, But glad for every day, when in God's keeping. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE FLAT-HUNTER'S WAY by FRANKLIN PIERCE ADAMS ADMIRAL, HAIL! by ANNA EMILIA BAGSTAD DEATH'S JEST-BOOK: DIRGE by THOMAS LOVELL BEDDOES SONG ON THE WATER (1) by THOMAS LOVELL BEDDOES LET NO BIRD SING by VERNE TAYLOR BENEDICT TO THE OBELISK DURING THE GREAT FROST, 1881 by MATHILDE BLIND |
