WILLIAM MILLIGAN SLOANE by JOHN HUSTON FINLEY

First Line: AS ON THE BLISSFUL FIELDS MUSAEUS STOOD
Last Line: OLD PLUTARCH WOULD HAVE LOVED AND ENVIED HIM.
Subject(s): AUTHORS & AUTHORSHIP; BOOKS; HISTORY; SLOANE, WILLIAM MILLIGAN (1906-1974); TEACHING & TEACHERS; READING; HISTORIANS; EDUCATORS; PROFESSORS;

As on the blissful fields Musaeus stood
The center of the happy throng, so here
Did Sloane with gracious dignity preside
And liven converse with his fluent speech;
A teacher all his days, he yet found time
To fill a shelf with his own histories
Of many volumes—see yon massive tome—
Old Plutarch would have loved and envied him.
