SPRING AND MOTHER by CAROLINE DARR FITZSIMMONS

First Line: FAR AWAY IN WOODED FIELDS
Last Line: DEAR THE PRECEPTS THAT YOU TAUGHT.
Subject(s): MOTHERS; SPRING;

Far away in wooded fields,
Neath the grass and mosses
Sleeping,
Nestling so still, so low,
Little heads are shyly peeping,
Waiting for the snows to go;
Violets, May-apple blossoms,
Forget-me-nots that you loved so.

They bring back childhood days to me,
School hours over, oft I
Gathered,
Mother, these sweet flowers for thee.
O'er hill and bank of stream I wandered;
To part from thee I never thought;
Dear to me are first Spring blossoms,
Dear the precepts that you taught.
