THE LOVER TO HIS LUTE by ELIZABETH HIRST FLEISHER

First Line: I WOULD MAKE A SONG FOR MY BELOVED
Last Line: THAT SHE MAY KNOW HOW GRAVE A THING MY LOVE IS, AND BE GLAD.
Subject(s): SINGING & SINGERS; WELLESLEY COLLEGE; SONGS;

I WOULD make a song for my Beloved,
A very simple little song,
That she may sing it when the way is long.
It must be merry, then, to cheer her,
And yet a little sad,
A little filled with yearning to be near her,
That she may know how grave a thing my love is, and be glad.
