RAINY SPELL by HORTENSE KING FLEXNER

First Line: AND SO WE STOOD DISTRAUGHT WHO CAME TOO LATE
Last Line: TO SHINE ON AN IRREVOCABLE DEED.
Subject(s): RAIN;

And so we stood distraught who came too late;
Feeling within ourselves the insane
And terrible weight
Of a drop of rain;
The passing transient thing that changed its state,
And swelled its drumming note
Into eternity within his brain,
That to be freed,
Unlocked the solid throat,
And forced the sun, when it came out again,
To shine on an irrevocable deed.
