LOVED by JEAN DREW FREEMAN

First Line: YOU WERE SO FAIR TO LOOK UPON
Last Line: BUT NOW I WALK ALONE.
Subject(s): ABSENCE; SOLITUDE; SEPARATION; ISOLATION; LONELINESS;

You were so fair to look upon—
That last farewell "Good-night".
A gleam fell on your lovely face
From out the candle's light.
Before the dawn an angel came.
It waited not for day—
For in that marvelous dawn I saw
Two angels go away.

The days to come can never be
As fair as those now flown.
We two lived in the yesterdays;
But now I walk alone.
