UNDERSTANDING by ELSIE GLENN

First Line: THE COOL, CRISP AIR FILTERED WITH MOONLIGHT
Last Line: I DROPPED ASLEEP, THANKFUL FOR THIS BLESSED PEACE.
Subject(s): PEACE; REASON; INTELLECT; RATIONALISM; BRAIN; MIND; INTELLECTUALS;

The cool, crisp air filtered with moonlight
Fluttered so gently through my curtains last night;
Through the crystal clearness the stars shone down;
I lay very calm in my white gown.

I could think. Somewhere a bird sang;
Deep in my heart, a golden bell rang.
My brain cleared. Then, by moonlight released,
I dropped asleep, thankful for this blessed peace.
