MENTAL HORIZONS: 1. MR. SMALLMAN-SELFISHNESS by WILLIAM STEWARD GORDON

First Line: WITH THE MARKETS HIS SPIRITS RISE AND FALL
Last Line: HATCHED IN THIS LILLIPUTIAN HIVE.
Subject(s): CHRISTIANITY; SELFISHNESS; WEST (U.S.); SOUTHWEST; PACIFIC STATES;

With the markets his spirits rise and fall,
His sympathy stops with stomach wall.
He would pull the world in his little shell,
Nor glance to see who stood or fell.
Both church and charity plead in vain,
And a school tax simply raises Cain.
But thanks to nature, few survive,
Hatched in this Lilliputian hive.
