WHAT IS A POEM by GERTRUDE GORE

First Line: I THOUGHT A POEM WAS A PRAYER
Last Line: OF AN ANGUISH IN THE HEART.
Subject(s): POETRY & POETS;

I thought a poem was a prayer,
Now I see one everywhere,
In a flower and a tree
On a hilltop or the sea,
In the quiet trusting eyes
Of a dreamer beauty wise.
In the hush of early snow
Or a love of long ago,
... Mostly it is but a part
Of an anguish in the heart.
