IN AN OLD SOUTHERN GARDEN by HALLIE HALL

First Line: IN AN OLD SOUTHERN GARDEN - I FOUND
Last Line: ROMANCE -- OF THE LONG LONG AGO. . . .
Subject(s): MELANCHOLY; DEJECTION;

In an old southern garden -- I found
Romance -- of the long, long ago
With bridesmaid roses around
The white bridal wreath aglow,
Enchanting vision! Azalea Queen,
Your gown like aurora of dawn
In gorgeous robes of radiant sheen
Like a sunset -- you linger on. . . .

Soft wistaria -- waving slow --
Through purple twilight -- I dream of one.
Fair Camellia! of long ago
Through the winter of years -- never gone --
Night of love -- in magnolia grove
Blossoms falling -- stars above --
A nightingale singing "'Tis late -- too late"
And the mocking bird answered "'Tis fate. . . ."

'Twas in old Mobile -- the deep southland
Where sweet orange blossoms blow --
In an old southern garden -- I found again
Romance -- of the long long ago. . . .
