AN EPITAPH UPON A CHILD by ROBERT HERRICK

Poet Analysis

First Line: VIRGINS PROMIS'D WHEN I DY'D
Last Line: MAIDS, AND HERE STREW VIOLETS.
Subject(s): DEATH - CHILDREN; DEATH - BABIES;

Virgins promis'd when I dy'd,
That they wo'd each Primrose-tide,
Duely, Morne and Ev'ning, come,
And with flowers dresse my Tomb.
Having promis'd, pay your debts,
Maids, and here strew Violets.
