ANTHEA'S RETRACTION by ROBERT HERRICK

Poet Analysis

First Line: ANTHEA LAUGHT, AND FEARING LEST EXCESSE
Last Line: AND CAL'D EACH LINE BACK TO HIS RULE AND SPACE.

Anthea laught, and fearing lest excesse
Might stretch the cords of civill comelinesse:
She with a dainty blush rebuk't her face;
And cal'd each line back to his rule and space.
