PRAYER by ROBERT HERRICK

Poet Analysis

First Line: A PRAYER, THAT IS SAID ALONE
Last Line: BUT EARTH: SUCH VOWES NERE REACH GODS EARE.
Subject(s): PRAYER;

A prayer, that is said alone,
Starves, having no companion.
Great things ask for, when thou dost pray,
And those great are, which ne're decay.
Pray not for silver, rust eats this;
Ask not for gold, which metall is:
Nor yet for houses, which are here
But earth: such vowes nere reach Gods eare.
