LET NO SMALL SINNER .... by ALFRED FRANCIS KREYMBORG

First Line: IF TIME SHOULD FIND A WAYWARD STONE THEREIN
Last Line: LET NO SMALL SINNER ENTER THE MOSAIC.
Subject(s): SIN; TIME;

If time should find a wayward stone therein
Corrupt the shape or shade of his romance,
Some particle intrude itself and sin
With variation, interrupt the dance,
Despoil a colour or a curve wherein
Legato movement brings each circumstance
To lead a stone to woo each stone and win
Espousal with the plural they enhance:

The pendulum will strike a dissonance,
Or palm across the surface feel abrasion,
The eye which searches fusion look askance,
Posterity dethrone the high occasion,
Unless his art, transforming the prosaic,
Let no small sinner enter the mosaic.
