EPIGRAM: ON A CRITIC by MARCUS VALERIUS MARTIALIS

First Line: A BROTHER SCRIBBLER CALLS MY VERSES WRONG
Last Line: TO PLEASE HIS GUESTS, NOT OTHER PEOPLE'S COOKS!
Subject(s): CRITICISM & CRITICS;

A BROTHER scribbler calls my verses wrong
In point of art; small merit he can see.
Well, since my readers like my simple song,
That, I am sure, is quite enough for me;
The man who gives a public dinner looks
To please his guests, not other people's cooks!
