SUGGESTED BY THE RUINS OF A MOUNTAIN-TEMPLE IN ARCADIA by HERMAN MELVILLE

Poet Analysis

First Line: LIKE STRANDED ICE WHEN FRESHETS DIE
Last Line: THE QUARRIES BE!
Subject(s): GREECE; RUINS; TEMPLES; GREEKS; MOSQUES;

Like stranded ice when freshets die
These shattered marbles tumbled lie:
They trouble me.

What solace? -- Old in inexhaustion,
Interred alive from storms of fortune,
The quarries be!
