MY SUMMER SANCTUARY by ROSELLE MERCIER MONTGOMERY

First Line: AN ARCHING ROOF OF BLUE, AND GOTHIC AISLES
Last Line: WHILE ALL THE FEATHERED FOREST CHOIR SINGS!
Subject(s): SANCTUARIES;

AN arching roof of blue, and gothic aisles
Of leafy green, wherein the summer sun
Swings golden censers while the tall tree-priests
The woodland service solemnly intone:
Confession unto these I mutely make—

They whisper absolution and uplift
Their arms in benediction as I kneel
And cross myself with water from the font
That nestles in the bosom of the rock,—
While all the feathered forest choir sings!
