THE DRUNKEN SONG by FRIEDRICH WILHELM NIETZSCHE

First Line: O MAN, WHAT SEEM
Last Line: "WOULD HAVE DEEP, DEEP ETERNITY!"
Subject(s): FUTURE LIFE; GRIEF; HAPPINESS; RETRIBUTION; ETERNITY; AFTER LIFE; SORROW; SADNESS; JOY; DELIGHT;

OMAN, what seem
The words that from deep Midnight stream?
"I was asleep—
I have awakened from my dream.
The World is deep,
Yea, deeper far than Day could deem.
Deep is your Grief,
But deeper Joy than Grief can be.
'Life, be thou brief!' sighs Grief.
But Joy would have Eternity—,
Would have deep, deep Eternity!"
