AMOUR DU CREPUSCULE by ALFRED NOYES

Poet Analysis

First Line: SWEET SLEEP, LINGER NIGH
Last Line: MURMURING OF INFINITY.

"To a tune of Blake's"
SWEET Sleep, linger nigh;
Let the smile be half a sigh,
Wistful as the parting day,
Tired of striving to be gay.

Sweet Night, with dim hair
Brush the sunny breast half bare,
Where the rosebud softly glows
Through the gloaming of repose.

Sweet Love, with deep wings
Clothe me close in shadowings,
While my softly breathing lips
Touch her softly breathing lips.

Dreams, dreams, dim her eyes,
Let her wake in sweet surprise,
Wondering what sad singing bird
In the twilight softly stirred.

What sweet moment floated nigh,
Flower or wild-winged butterfly,
Honey-laden like a bee,
Murmuring of infinity.
