AN ANGEL by EDNA DEAN PROCTOR

First Line: AT MY WINDOW THERE'S AN ANGEL
Last Line: TIS THE MAPLE ON THE LAWN!
Subject(s): ANGELS; MAPLE TREES;

AT my window there's an angel
Robed in flame —
Orange, emerald, vermilion!
Countless treasure — not a trillion—
Though you heaped it to the sky,
Of the gems of earth could buy
Such magnificence of color,
Such release from gray and dolor,
All things tame,
As this wondrous angel brings
(O the ravishing evangel!)
In the splendor of his wings —
Orange, emerald, vermilion,
Gold of sunset, rose of dawn —
And his name?
'Tis the maple on the lawn!
