TO NEW MEXICO by EDNA DEAN PROCTOR

First Line: LAND OF ROMANCE AND DREAM AND MYSTERY
Last Line: CROWNING ITS GLORIES WITH OUR LINCOLN'S NAME!
Subject(s): NEW MEXICO;

LAND of romance and dream and mystery,
Whose peaks rise proudly in the sunlit blue —
Olympian heights fairer than Thessaly
Before the gods were lost to mortal view —
Thy sculptured cliffs and caves were old, perchance,
Ere sphinx was hewn or pyramids were piled,
And man and maid met here in mystic dance
Ere Miriam sung or David's harp beguiled.

Thine are the treasures of the field, the mine,
The boundless regions of illumined air,
And thine the streams that, brimmed with mountain wine,
Beauty and life to burning lowlands bear.
Land of delight! in this memorial year
Give to thy peaks and vales yet rarer fame,
And make thy realm to all the world more dear,
Crowning its glories with our Lincoln's name!
