THE MOCKING BIRD by FREDERIC SAUSER

First Line: THE HEAT IS OVERWHELMING
Last Line: AND FROM THE CACTUS THE CALL OF THE MOCKING-BIRDS.
Subject(s): ANIMALS; CATTLE; FIELDS; MOCKINGBIRDS; SINGING & SINGERS; PASTURES; MEADOWS; LEAS;

The heat is overwhelming
Porch shaded with Virginia creepers and purple honey-suckle
In the deep silence of the sleeping countryside
Dimly stir
The gurgling of little rapids
The far-off lowing of cattle in the fields
The nightingale song
The crystalline whistling of giant-toads
The howling of hungry night-beasts
And from the cactus the call of the mocking-birds.
