HER FACE by EDWARD ROWLAND SILL

First Line: I STOOD IN SOMBRE DREAMING
Last Line: THAT MY LOVE IS LOST TO ME.

I STOOD in sombre dreaming
Before her image dear,
And saw, in secret wonder,
Living my darling appear.

About her mouth a smile came,
So wonderful and wise,
And tears of some still sorrow
Seemed shining in her eyes.

My tears, they too were flowing,
Her face I could not see,
And oh! I cannot believe it,
That my love is lost to me.
