TEGEA: A GRAVE by SIMONIDES OF CEOS

First Line: HERE LET THEM LIE, REMEMBERED WELL
Last Line: HER GARLAND IN THE DUST.
Subject(s): GRAVES; TOMBS; TOMBSTONES;

HERE let them lie, remembered well,
Who died for Tegea, spear in hand,
The guardians of her citadel
And flocks that graze her land.

With Hellas' freedom for their crown
In battle onward still they thrust,
That she might live, nor tumble down
Her garland in the dust.
